You probably know that Twitter is a weird death spiral which probably won’t result in it going away completely anytime soon, yet will still mess with a bunch of people’s online lives. If you want to be sure you can find me online outside of my blog, here’s where I’m currently active:

Mastodon: Wandering Shop is my home server. You can follow me no matter what server you’re on.

Instagram: I was silent on here for a while, then discovered that the experience is much better via a browser, so I’m back to engaging for now.

Facebook: I only interact through my Group there. Joining it is the same as following me in terms of your experience.

TikTok: I haven’t been on here in months. Not sure if I’ll get back to it. Just in case.

How To Go About Raising Money For Personal Reasons

For a little less than a year I’ve been needing to buy a new mattress. Mine is old, it doesn’t support my back, and for the past month has been the cause of much severe back pain. Since the holidays are upon us, I’ve decided to ask my family to chip in toward getting a new mattress, which is going to cost somewhere in the realm of $500 even though it is only a full size bed. Bah.

My dilemma is this: I want to give them an easy way to send me money electronically. PayPal is out because they take a portion of the money in fees. I’m willing to pay some fees, but they take too much. I was thinking of some system like Kickstarter, where it keeps track of how much has been raised so far. But I feel like that is for actual projects, not just a personal “I want this thing.” Given that Mary had such a terrible time with Fundable.com, I’m a little afraid to try another similar site without knowing anything about them.

Does anyone out there know of a site where people can send money and see how close the fund is to the final goal and etc? I’m looking at ChipIn.com right now but, again, I know nothing about them and I am wary.

Mobile Broadband Is The Shit

I’m on an Amtrak train right this second!  Woo for the broadband card.  It’s on loan from work so that I can do some work while I’m on my way to see family.  Normally I would not be bothered to work while on the train, but as I want to keep as many of my vacation days as possible and as this trip would be filled with nothingness, anyway, I figured I could get something done, at least.

It’s good to work for people on the cutting edge of mobile technology.

Too bad I can’t have this thing all the time, then no lack of wi-fi would keep me from camping out in a cafe and writing.
